Legislator convenes public hearing on Zika Virus, Oct. 11; testimony from virus survivorLOS ANGELES – A public hearing on the deadly mosquito-borne Zika Virus, occurs Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 10 a.m., at the Claude Hudson Auditorium, 12021 S. Wilmington Ave., in South L.A.Assemblyman Mike A. Gipson, D-Carson, chair of The Select Committee on Infectious Diseases in High Risk Disadvantaged Communities, is convening the hearing to focus on the Zika virus' development and implications in L.A. County and California, focusing on impacts to pregnant women and infants, prevention, and public health advisories to reduce the risk of contracting the virus.A panel of experts sharing the dais with Gibson, include, Dr. Carla Janzen, David Geffen School of Medicine, U.C.L.A.; Dr. James Watt, Division of Communicable Disease Control, California Department of Public Health; Dr. Ben Schwartz, Acute Communicable Disease Control Program, L.A. County Department of Public Health; Truc Dever, of Greater L.A.County Vector Control District; and Ernesto "Ernie" Aguilar, Housing and Shelter for Veterans and Homeless advocate, a Zika Virus survivor, who will share testimony on his recent illness and hospitalization.
