USACS: USACS to provide free medicines to all HIV + patients quoting : Times of India

DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand State AIDS Control Society (USACS) has now decided to provide medicines even to those HIV positive patients who are not undergoing antiretroviral therapy (ART). In majority of the cases, HIV positive patients are abandoned by their families. Currently, there are 5,527 registered HIV positive patients in the state. "HIV positive patients in the state have been demanding food and travel subsidy for a long time. Some of the poor patients suffer from poverty and hunger which deteriorates their health.

HIV treatment can cost up to $2,000 a month, not counting lab tests and doctor's visits. Experts said the study represents outcomes in Wisconsin, the only state in the country that has an HIV specialty home. Bill Keeton, the vice president of ACRW, said the facility not only links people to resources; it makes sure they continue to receive care. Keeton said he's concerned people who need treatment might not receive it under President Donald Trump's health care plan.
