Four hundred patients have been offered HIV tests after it emerged they had been operated on by a doctor infected with the virus. Emergency clinics are being set up, although doctors have said the chances any patients were infected are "very low". Health officials say the locum medic, who worked in orthodpaedic surgery and A&E, was employed at three NHS hospital trusts between June 2010 and February 2015.

The NHS said it would not name the doctor involved but confirmed they were no longer working for the NHS. After being referred to the GMC, the doctor had conditions placed on their registration but was suspended earlier this year.

More than 400 NHS hospital patients are at-risk of HIV
Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has recalled 121 patients, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has recalled 223 and Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust has recalled 57. Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has set up a helpline - 0800 0152804 - for anyone who is concerned about the news. Nottingham's medical director, Dr Stephen Fowlie, said the doctor had treated patients and then subsequently been diagnosed with HIV. More than 400 patients are being recalled for blood tests after being treated by a doctor with HIV. Dr Malcolm Stewart, medical director, Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust Medical Director, said: 'There has not been any instance of cross-infection following similar look back exercises in the UK in the past.
