HYDERABAD : The incidence of swine flu cases in Telangana has come down when compared to other southern states. From the second week of April to May 14, the number of swine flu cases in Karnataka increased by 237. In second week of April, officials in the state were anxious about the flu cases being reported even in summer, which generally is unlikely. As many as 196 swine flu related deaths were reported in Maharashtra from January till May 14, which is the highest in the country. As many as 189 cases were reported in Tamil Nadu as against 164 in Telangana.
"We have California strain vaccine, but the Centre is now providing Michigan strain vaccine. We have asked the state to provide us 1,000 doses of Michigan strain vaccine which we hope to get soon," Dr Keskar added. Mumbai has reported 34 swine flu cases since January this year and there have been two deaths. "The symptoms of swine flu is the same as the normal flu, so washing hands regularly and wearing the N95 masks are the best preventive measures. The Michigan strain was a strain that was isolated by the researchers at the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune that is run by the Indian Council of Medical Research's (ICMR).
