Marshall-Harrison County Health District testing for Zika virus, one case pending stat : CBS 19 TV

The Marshall-Harrison County Health District monitors state and local county Zika virus cases. Within the State of Texas, six Zika cases have been reported in 2017, and 313 cases were reported for 2015 and 2016.



Marshall-Harrison County Health District testing for Zika virus, one case pending
MOREHEAD CITY, Carteret County - A Carteret County person who traveled to the Caribbean last fall tested positive for the Zika Virus. The Carteret County News Times reports an announcement of the case was made at a public county meeting on Monday. The Zika Virus can lead to birth defects in infants if a pregnant mother is infected with the virus through mosquito bites, sexual transmission and blood transfusions. The person was determined to have Zika last October. The article revealed there is no current concern.

Zika Virus case reported in Carteret County last October
MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WNCT) – A Carteret County resident tested positive for Zika in October according to Donna Faiella, Carteret County Health Department communicable diseases nurse, who made the announcement Monday. The Carteret County Health Department has tested 17 people for Zika since January 2017. It is the first reported case in Carteret County. The Carteret County Health Department will do free tests if a person has traveled to a Zika zone within the past 12 weeks and is pregnant or has symptoms. Zika is not in the county locally.
