Flu kills 17-year-old girl in San Diego County quoting : San Diego Union Tribune

The flu season can last into June, so they still encourage vaccination — especially for people with weakened immune systems. It was the first pediatric flu death reported so far this season. The flu killed a teen from inland North County in late February, according to the latest influenza report from the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency. The 17-year-old girl, who had gotten her flu vaccination but also had other unspecified health problems, died on Feb. 25. (Dec. 8, 2016) Eight of the nation's 10 leading causes of death were deadlier in 2015 than in years past.

Reports of suspected influenza cases in Pima have been at their highest in recent weeks, a time when recent statewide trends show flu is normally on the decline. Statewide weekly reports for the past five years show the flu reports are at their highest in late January or early February. The two reports mark the first time this season that there have been more than 100 flu reports on the week. Reports from the Arizona Department of Health Services show there were 105 suspected cases of flu in the county the week of March 5, and 135 the week of March 12. Pima County's head of epidemiology said while overall cases are most widespread in the winter, a particular strain of influenza often hits its peak later.
