by Zach HagenbucherWAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -- The West Nile Virus has been found in a dead bird in Marathon County by the county's Health Department.The bird was found on August 22nd, putting Marathon with Lincoln, Portage, Langlade, Shawano, and Clark as counties with confirmed West Nile findings.Becky Mroczenski, Epidemiologist for Marathon County, says that extra measures should be taken to avoid mosquito bites, as they may have fed off the bird or others like it.

The Suffolk County Department of Health announced that seven mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus, including one in Brentwood.The other positive samples, all collected between August 29 and September 4, were found in Rocky Point, Huntington, Holtsville, Setauket, Dix Hills and Commack.In addition, a horse from Manorville also tested positive for the virus.

NYC's First 2016 Case Of West Nile Virus Reported In Brooklyn
The City's Health Department confirmed yesterday that a Brooklyn man has been diagnosed with the year's first human case of West Nile virus.The man, who has developed encephalitis (inflammation of the brain), had underlying medical conditions and was over the age of 40, the City said."This season's first case of West Nile virus is a reminder to protect ourselves against mosquito bites," said Health Commissioner Dr. Mary T. Bassett.
