RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- At least 1,775 people died from the H1N1 virus, also known as the swine flu, in Brazil between Jan. 1 and Aug. 13, the Ministry of Health announced Thursday.According to the data, Brazil is seeing the highest level of deaths from the virus since 2009, when the World Health Organization declared a swine flu pandemic, which killed 2,060 people that year in the country.Brazil's most populous state of Sao Paulo has seen most deaths with 737, followed by the southern states of Parana, 206 deaths, and Rio Grande do Sul, 182 deaths.

BENGALURU: The Sports Authority of India 's fears came true when marathon runner OP Jaisha , who left the campus as soon as she landed from Rio last week, tested positive for H1N1on Thursday.Jaisha, who fainted after the women's marathon at the Olympics owing to dehydration, submitted her blood samples on Wednesday, four days after she returned to the city along with middle distance runner Sudha Singh last Saturday.Test results confirmed that she was also suffering from the flu."OP Jaisha has tested positive for H1N1 and has been admitted to Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta road, following a recommendation made by Dr Sunanda (district surveillance officer of the state health and family welfare department).

Bengaluru: Olympian OP Jaisha, who returned from Rio with fever and body ache last week, has been hospitalised after she was tested positive for H1N1, two days after another athlete Sudha Singh was found to be suffering from the same."Jaisha, who arrived in Bengaluru with fever and body ache, has been hospitalised at the Fortis hospital at Bannerghatta, as per the information I had received so far from SAI doctors," Sports Authority of India Regional director Shyam Sunder told PTI here.Jaisha had competed in the women's marathon in Rio Olympics.
