No cause for alarm over outbreak of "monkey pox" virus – Bayelsa GovtBy Nathan NwakammaYenagoa – The Bayelsa Gov. on Thursday allayed fears of possible epidemic next the outbreak of a contagious viral illness called "monkey pox" in the state. Etebu said which the Gov. had contained the outbreak & commenced public sensitisation to curtail spread of the virus. He added which the focus of the enlightenment was enhanced personal hygiene & vigilance by wild animals, the primary vectors of the virus. He said samples of the virus had been sent to World Health Organisation reference lab in Dakar for confirmation. as declared in The Bayelsa Gov. is investigating suspected statuses of monkeypox outbreak in its communities, the commissar for Health, Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu, has said. Those by the suspected statuses had been quarantined at the Niger Delta University Teaching infirmary ( NDUTH ) , Okolobiri, Yenagoa native Gov. Area. Etebu said which samples of the virus had been sent to the World Health Organisation lab in Dakar for confirmation. "Recently in Bayelsa, we noticed a suspected outbreak of monkeypox.
