Samples of mosquitoes collected in a San Dimas park have tested positive for West Nile Virus, vector control district officials said Tuesday. These are the first mosquitoes to test positive for the virus in the San Gabriel Valley this year, according to the district. The mosquitoes were collected Friday from traps in Frank G. Bonelli Park, 120 Via Verde Park Road, according to a San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District statement. "This confirms that mosquitoes in the San Gabriel Valley are actively circulating the virus and people are once again at risk of being infected," the statement says. West Nile is endemic in California and has infected thousands of people and caused more than 200 deaths statewide since first being detected in 2003.

West Nile Virus Found in Coppell

COPPELL (WBAP/KLIF News) — The City of Coppell is confirming the presence of West Nile Virus found in one of its mosquito traps. The virus was found in a trap near Villawood Lane, a few blocks away from Austin Elementary School, Mockingbird Elementary, and Coppell Middle School East. As a result, crews will be spraying Tuesday night and Wednesday night starting at 9:00, lasting through 5:00 in the morning. The city says to make sure you stay indoors while the spraying takes place and to make sure to drain standing water to prevent the virus from cultivating.
