ZME Science : reported that Unvaccinated children account for majority of pediatric deaths due to the flu

However, a new study suggests that most pediatric deaths caused by the flu are of children who weren't vaccinated. These results support current recommendations for annual influenza vaccination for all children ≥6 months of age," the study concludes. These records suggest that in only 26 percent of these fatalities were the children vaccinated against influenza. A flu vaccine makes children far less susceptible to serious flu but sometimes an underlying illness chips away at a person's immune system making the vaccine less effective than in healthy people. The study highlights yet again the importance of annual influenza vaccination, despite what many parents may hear about vaccines.

Majority of US children who die from flu have not had vaccine, study finds
Of 358 children who died when they caught influenza between 2010 and 2014, the majority had not received a flu vaccine, researchers said. In the UK, young children are offered a flu vaccine in the form of a nasal spray each year on the NHS. More than three quarters of US children who died from the flu in recent years had not been vaccinated against the virus, a new study has found. Of those who died, vaccination status was known for 291 of the children. Half of those who died were considered healthy before they caught the virus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
