Doctors said the bacteria from Hendley's strep throat got into his blood. Both of Hendley's legs, from the mid-thigh down, had to be amputated. He woke up around 1 a.m. and his foot was numb," Hendley's wife, Carly Graham said. "It caused his blood to coagulate, and they said that since gravity pulls all the blood clots, it went to his legs," Graham said.

AKRON, Ohio - A kindergartner, who loves to dance, has lost one of her legs after a bout with strep throat led to a rare infection. The leg began to swell and doctors said that the strep caused a serious infection and the decision was made to amputate her left leg. According to TMJ4, Tessa Puma, 6, of Northfield, Ohio is recovering after surgery to amputate her left leg at Akron Children's Hospital. In March, Tessa was diagnosed with strep throat, and a few weeks later, she got the flu and and complained about pain in her arm and leg. Tessa could be in the hospital for several months and will need more procedures done before she's fitted for a prosthetic leg.

A Michigan mother of seven whose sore throat turned into a life-threatening strep infection is battling for her life as doctors work to save her organs. "When they were hydrating her, her throat started to swell closed. "They told us she had strep, the flu, and she was severely dehydrated," Anastasia Coleman, McGeorge's daughter, told the news outlet. Shannon McGeorge, of Troy, Michigan, was admitted to the hospital two weeks ago after she started suffering from flu-like symptoms, her family told Fox 2 Detroit.
