Elton John is continuing to recover from a "rare and potentially deadly" infection he contracted while touring in South America. John recently posted a message to fans on Twitter, stating: "Woke up to an avalanche of well wishes. A representative for the singer said John became "violently ill" during a flight to the U.K. from Santiago, Chili, and was hospitalized immediately. "Upon returning to the U.K., Elton's doctors admitted him to [the] hospital, where he underwent immediate treatment to remove the infection," read a statement from the representative. I'm resting well and looking forward to getting back on tour."

"Thankfully, Elton's medical team identified this quickly and treated it successfully," his representative said. The singer, who turned 70 in March, spent two nights in intensive care at a hospital in Britain. He said on Twitter on Tuesday that he was looking forward to touring again.

The kind of infection Sir Elton contracted is "rare and potentially deadly," according to the statement. "Upon returning to the UK, Elton's Doctors admitted him to hospital, where he underwent immediate treatment to remove the infection. The 70-year-old singer was forced to cancel all his scheduled Caesars Palace performances for April and May after he contracted a "harmful and unusual bacterial infection" following a tour in South America.
