Worst Ever Bird Flu in China stat : financialtribune

No vaccines for the H7N9 bird flu are on the market in China or overseas at present. Chinese disease control experts have warned the public to stay alert against the H7N9 avian flu, saying that more than 340 cases of human infection have been reported since last October. At present, four vaccines have been approved for clinical trials by China's top drug regulator, according to the Beijing Food and Drug Administration. Last month alone, 192 human cases of the virus, including 79 deaths, were reported, making it the worst outbreak since the virus was first reported in China in March 2013, according to the Chinese Health and Family Planning Commission, The New Paper reported. The virus is likely to strike in winter and spring.

Worst Ever Bird Flu in China
The H7N9 bird flu virus has led to hundreds of deaths in China over the past four years, according to Stat News. The age and gender of those falling victim to the bird flu hasn't wavered since it was first detected four years ago, Reuters noted. Human cases of the bird flu are surging in China, despite having seemed to fall off the radar a bit in the past two years. According to the Financial Tribune, there were more than 190 human cases of the bird flu last month, which resulted in 79 fatalities. As a result, the WHO said patients will likely undergo the same types of treatment that have been exercised in past cases of the virus.

Bird Flu Surges in China After Diminishing in Recent Years
Viruses designated H1, H2 or H3, along with a separate B lineage, have caused virtually all seasonal flu cases in humans. China has had 460 lab-confirmed human cases of H7N9 bird flu this winter, said Dr. Wenqing Zhang, head of the W.H.O.'s global influenza program. PhotoAlthough there has been a surge in human infections with H7N9 avian flu in China this winter, the risk of an epidemic remains low, a World Health Organization official said on Wednesday. Now that the virus has split into two strains, the agency is discussing making a second seed vaccine, Dr. Katz said. That is the most in any flu season since the first human case was found in 2013.
