HIV cases in January highest since '84: DOH
Of the new HIV cases, 90 were found to be full-blown AIDS cases. Since 1984, 40,466 HIV cases have been recorded, including 3,755 full-blown AIDS cases, and 2,002 deaths. Based on the January 2017 HIV/AIDS Registry of the Philippines report, the figure topped the 841 new cases recorded in June last year. THE Department of Health recorded 844 new cases of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in January this year, the highest monthly tally since 1984 when HIV monitoring started in the Philippines. The National Capital Region continues to have the highest number of HIV cases with 307 followed by Calabarzon with 151, Central Luzon with 91, Central Visayas with 62, and Davao Region with 50.
Based on the January 2017 HIV/AIDS Registry of the Philippines (HARP) report, there were 844 new HIV cases reported in the said month. Since 1984, there are already 40,466 HIV cases, including 3,755 full-blown AIDS cases, and 2,002 deaths. Of the new HIV cases, a total of 90 were found to have developed into AIDS cases, even as 33 deaths were also reported last January. THE Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reported that more than 800 new cases of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) have been recorded last January. The figure, according to the health department, is also the highest number of cases ever reported since 1984.
