× North Carolina reports first child flu death of the seasonRALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reported Thursday the first child death from the flu for the 2016-2017 season. In an effort to protect the child's identity, no identifying factors were released; officials only said the child resided in western North Carolina. Authorities said the child died last Tuesday from complications associated with influenza infection. The Centers for Disease Control says there have been eight other pediatric flu-related deaths nationwide this season. "We extend our deepest sympathies to this child's family."DHHS says 19 adults have died flu-related deaths in North Carolina so far this season, of which 14 were over the age of 65.
Power through flu season with lemon chicken and rice soup
Instead of the classic chicken noodle, I've opted here for a subtle lemon chicken and rice version, a variation of Greek avgolemono. A quick pot of healing chicken soup is just what the doctor ordered. Both the rice and the egg thicken up the soup, making it heartier and creamier, filling you up. It's citrus season and the lemon is the perfect thing to soothe a sore throat, tame your tension and brighten up an otherwise dreary sick day. Sometimes all you need is something wholesome and homemade to make you feel nourished and restored.collected by :Lucy William
