Hong Kong health authorities confirmed on Friday a second human case of H7N9 bird flu this winter, four days after they reported the first bird flu death this winter.The 70-year-old with underlying illnesses visited Shenzhen and Zhongshan in Guangdong province on December 13 and returned to Hong Kong through Lo Wu on December 16, the Centre for Health Protection said.He sought medical help on Tuesday, after developing a cough with sputum, shortness of breath, runny nose and chest discomfort.

HONG KONG Hong Kong authorities on Friday confirmed the city's second case of human bird flu infection this winter, five days after the death of a first patient who contracted the same H7N9 strain of the disease.The Center for Health Protection of the Department of Health said a 70-year-old man with underlying illnesses, who was admitted to hospital on Dec. 27, was diagnosed with the H7N9 strain on Dec. 29 and was in stable condition.The case comes as fears grow over the spread of bird flu - in varying strains - in neighboring South Korea and Japan, as well as mainland China.

Shanghai and Hong Kong each confirmed a new human case of infection by the H7N9 strain of avian influenza on Friday.Shanghai's health authority said the man, who has been diagnosed with H7N9 bird flu strain is being treated in a hospital, Xinhua reported.On the other hand, Hong Kong confirmed its second case of this season after an elderly man died of the virus on Sunday.
