Four area hospitals, including Johnson Memorial in Stafford and St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford — both now owned by Trinity Health — were cited for having high rates of potentially avoidable infections or complications among patients in their facilities last year.Hartford Hospital and Windham Community Memorial Hospital in Windham also were penalized for high rates in each of the last three consecutive years, according to federal officials.Nearly half, or 14 out of 31 Connecticut hospitals, were similarly cited by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and, as a result, will see their Medicaid payments reduced by 1 percent this fiscal year that began in October.
