JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A case of West Nile virus has been confirmed in Duval County and there's a concern additional people will become ill, the Florida Department of Health in Duval County announced Thursday.DOH said there has been an increase in "mosquito-borne disease activity" in areas of Duval County.This is the first case of West Nile in Duval County since 2014.

The recent discovery of five dead birds and two chicken flocks latent with the West Nile virus prompted vector control officials to warn residents that late summer is a particularly hungry time for mosquitoes.Two birds carrying the virus were found dead in Concord, and three others were found in Danville, Oakley and Pleasant Hill earlier this month, according to a statement from spokeswoman Deborah Bass of the Contra Costa Vector Control District.That brings the total to 17 dead birds with the virus found this year in Contra Costa County, according to the vector control district.
