Pools of mosquitoes in South Bend have tested positive for West Nile virus, according to the St. Joseph County Health Department.From the St. Joseph County Health Department:The St. Joseph County Health Department is announcing that Indiana State Department of Health testing has identified pools of West Nile Virus positive mosquitoes in South Bend.St. Joseph County is one of 27 counties in Indiana where mosquitoes carrying West Nile Virus have been found so far this year.

The recent discovery of five dead birds and two chicken flocks latent with the West Nile virus prompted vector control officials to warn residents that late summer is a particularly hungry time for mosquitoes.Two birds carrying the virus were found dead in Concord, and three others were found in Danville, Oakley and Pleasant Hill earlier this month, according to a statement from spokeswoman Deborah Bass of the Contra Costa Vector Control District.That brings the total to 17 dead birds with the virus found this year in Contra Costa County, according to the vector control district.
