An in-depth review of zika virus
Zika Virus is one of the virus family Flaviviridae and it is mostly spread by  Aedes mosquitoes.

Moreover, its name originate to the Zika Forest of Uganda, where the virus was first isolated in 1947.

What is Zika Virus (ZIKV)?

Zika fever or Zika virus disease is an infection, often causes no or only mild symptoms that are similar to a very mild form of dengue fever.

However, there is no specific treatment, paracetamol (acetaminophen) and rest of known medicine might help with only the symptoms.

In 2016, the illness could not  be prevented by medications or vaccines as it was a mystery to doctors.
Furthermore, Zika can transmit from a pregnant woman to her baby.

Moreover, this can result in microcephaly, severe brain malformations, and other birth defects.
Zika infections in adults may cause some rare diseases such as Guillain–Barré syndrome.

Zika Virus Symptoms

The time from exposure to symptoms of Zika virus disease is estimated to be from  3 to 14 days.

Moreover, most of infected people  do not develop symptoms as they might seem like any other disease or fever.

In addition, symptoms are generally mild including fever, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain, malaise, and headache, and usually last for 7 days max.

Risk factors of Zika Virus

Zika virus infection during pregnancy can cause critical complications such as fetal loss, stillbirth, and preterm birth.

In addition, it is also a trigger of Guillain-Barré syndrome and myelitis, particularly in adults and older children.

Furthermore, some research are investigating the effects of Zika virus infection on pregnancy outcomes as well as the effects of infection on other neurological disorders in children and adults.

Moreover, Infection with Zika virus may be suspected based on symptoms of persons living in or visiting areas with Zika virus transmission or Aedes mosquito.

However, a diagnosis of Zika virus infection can only be confirmed by laboratory tests of blood or other body fluids, such as urine.
