Connecticut continues to urge vigilance against mosquito-borne virus Zika
The Connecticut State Public Health Laboratory will continue conducting Zika virus testing for pregnant Connecticut women. Pregnant women who have been exposed to Zika, through travel or sexual exposure, but who do not have any symptoms are not recommended to have Zika virus testing. In Connecticut, DPH began surveillance for the Zika virus on Feb. 15, 2016.

Kalamazoo hunting mosquitoes known to carry Zika virus

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Kalamazoo County is looking for mosquitoes known to carry the Zika virus this summer. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services awarded Kalamazoo County a $20,000 grant for a Zika virus mosquito surveillance program. Mosquitoes are commonly associated with spreading Zika virus, West Nile virus, and Eastern Equine Encephalitis. Kalamazoo County's health department set five traps for the Asian tiger mosquito, a species known to carry the virus, to collect specimens from May to September. According to the CDC, there have been 181 reported cases of the Zika virus in 2017, including six in Michigan.
